Experiment

Hi Friends;

This is my first blog when many friends of mine started sharing their views through blogs months ago. Thank you friends for such initiation and continuing with it. I was really waiting for something that can be worth sharing. Finally feel I have got one…

Recently I read a book called “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch. I am totally, completely, absolutely fascinated by the writer and his thoughts. Randy was a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon University and died of Cancer. The time when he gave this lecture to 400 people he had only 6 months to live. Then also he was so full of positive energy to live or say control life that amazed me a lot.

Sometime back we a bunch of college friends had a get together in Bangalore. About 20 people turned up, we had fun sitting and chatting but surprisingly one common thing among us was that none of us was completely happy with our present job or stay in the city. And the very same day I got this book to read and met some people who actually asked me to experiment.
I will call this experiment as “My Experiment for Life”. The experiment is about noticing and discussing anything good happening around us. This good thing can be the kind of work we do, a good nature colleague we have, a smile on our last interviewer’s face or even the chair we use to sit or anything else. And, when you think about this, a smile will automatically come on your face.

In my case, following are definitely the good things (can’t be better at least):

1. The drinking water in my office (tastes good and moderate temp. ;-)
2. My colleagues. Some are extremely co-operative.
3. My boss. Believe me he is exactly what we used to study in our HR syllabus, how a superior should be. He is not only friendly with us but makes us work till late night whenever needed. Rewards for good work and warns for unacceptable behavior too.
4. I also like the hand sanitizer which they have kept on the reception (nice smell).

Hmmm…Lots of positive energy and yeah I was smiling while typing it.

Back to the book, Randy talks about the head fake (you will come to know what it is only when you read the book ;-) ). Some of the above four things unknowingly do that for me.

Randy says, “Sometimes, what you have to do is just ask.” At least two of my problems got solved here just because I did ASK. :-)

The other thing is, “Hard work is like the compounded interest in a bank. Rewards get multiplied.” The mantra for success, which everyone from childhood has told us and all of us in some way follow it too. Sooner or later we will ripe its fruit too. So again happy :-)

Now, dear readers! I would like you to contribute to my experiment, discuss about what do you like around you (can be anything as I told earlier) and then tell me if you felt any difference after noticing it.(I understand many of us are at home right now waiting either for the joining date or for the offer, but I feel there also something positive is happening, so just try and write for me.)

You can write your experience in the comment box or you can send a mail to
shruti_aei@yahoo.co.in also.

Please read the book if you can.
You can watch the lecture on

Thanks for taking interest and reading. Waiting for your response for my attempt and the experiment both. Take care & ATB
